Samsung Working on Next-Gen Curved Display, Patent Suggests

With its latest Galaxy S20 lineup, Samsung made some significant changes in the design aspect, specifically in display. Instead of good ol’ curved display, the chaebol went with the small curves on the sides. In fact, it is safe to assume that the display is practically flat. It seems like Samsung is now working on the next-gen curved display technology.

Samsung Next-Gen Curved Display in Works, Curved Design on All Sides

Instead of just two sides i.e. left and right, Samsung this time is trying to bring the curved design to all the four corners. A publication that goes by the name LetsGoDigital recently come across with a patent. The patent reveals the design of the new all side curved design technology that Samsung is working on.

Samsung next-gen curved design

Even though the idea of four curved design sounds pretty interesting, we have our fair share of doubts on the durability. Looking at the patented design, it seems like the brand is using metallic frame on all the corners to support the new design. It will also add an additional layer of durability.

Talking about the patent, the South Korean giant originally filed it back in July 2019 in China at SNIPA. The patent got recently published on 24th March 2020. Furthermore, it is also now included in the global database of WIPO. If the patented image is notworking out for you, you can also look at the render images designed by LetsGoDigital.

Samsung next-gen curved design

With that said, it is worth noting that a published patent does not indicate that the company will end up implementing it in the real scenarios. With S20, it seemed like the company is dropping the curve design. But looking at this patent, Samsung might not be done yet. If the design does end up becoming a reality, we will make sure to keep our readers updated.
