Facebook spent $22.6 million alone on Mark Zuckerberg’s Security in 2018

Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and CEO of Facebook, has drawn a base salary of $1 for the past 3 years. Despite this, Mark Zuckerberg had a net worth of about $71 billion in 2018, making him the fifth-richest person in the world. A reveal of his “other” compensation was listed at $22.6m – and almost all was spent on his security.

A regulatory filing showed on Friday revealed that Facebook has doubled the spending on top executive Mark Zuckerberg’s security in 2018. As per the report, Facebook spent $20 million on Mark Zuckerberg’s security in 2018 as compared to $9 million the year prior.

Apart from this, Zuckerberg also received $2.6 million for personal use of private jets as compared $1.5 million a year before, which is claimed to be a part of his overall security program.

The COO of Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg also took home a hefty amount of $23.7(roughly Rs. 164 crores) million compared to $25.2 million in 2017.

Facebook has received a lot of public disapproval in the past years due to its role in the data breaches, privacy concerns, the spread of disinformation and online political propaganda. A major scandal was revealed last year when data of 87 million users of the social media platform was leaked to political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica without consent. This hike in security expenditure for its leaders comes alongside a string of scandals for the company, which have put Zuckerberg at risk of abuse and threats
